Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's ED remand has been extended by five more days, and Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, representing Soren, has alleged that he is being kept in a windowless basement room without access to sunlight. According to the advocate, the room lacks natural light, and even air is supplied through a pipe. Armed guards reportedly monitor Hemant Soren, even during his sleep.

The extension comes after Soren was remanded to ED custody for five days on February 2, during which he underwent 120 hours of interrogation. Following a floor test on February 5, where the JMM-led coalition secured a majority, Soren spoke about his arrest, calling it an example of the oppression faced by Dalits and tribals in society.

Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan further highlighted Soren's remarks on January 31, considering it a black chapter in India's history when a chief minister was arrested at the behest of the Raj Bhavan. Soren accused the BJP of preventing a tribal CM from completing a five-year term in Jharkhand. On February 7, which also marked Hemant Soren's 18th wedding anniversary, his wife Kalpana Soren Murmu expressed confidence in his ability to overcome the alleged conspiracy and emerge victorious.
